The army affiliated health ministry reported Wednesday that a Sudanese military transport plane crashed into a civilian neighborhood on the outskirts of Khartoum, killing at least 19 people.
In Omdurman, northwest of the city, the Antonov plane crashed Tuesday evening close to Wadi Seidna Air Base, a significant Sudanese military installation.
The jet crashed during takeoff, killing both military troops and civilians, according to the Sudanese army, which has been engaged in a bloody battle with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023.
Witnesses said they heard a huge explosion and saw houses nearby that were destroyed. Power disruptions were also caused by the crash in neighboring areas.
The text of the statement is:
"Searches are still being conducted to locate the other martyrs beneath the debris."
