Two people, identified as a driver and a loader, were killed in an early morning traffic accident that occurred in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, on Friday at around six in the morning.
According to reports, the accident happened while both men, who work for Anambra Comfort Line, were packing some bags into the trunk of a Sienna car in their loading dock so they could begin their journey to Lagos.
An eyewitness described the accident's events to the Daily Post.
According to him, a young man driving a Lexus 350 RX with a young girl in the front seat lost control while traveling at a fast pace on the Enugu-Onitsha road. The males were instantaneously killed when the car crashed into the trunk of the Sienna vehicle where they were standing.
He stated:
In addition to the two bodies that are lying here, several others were hurt and were transported to the hospital.
Just this morning, during our morning prayers, the men you see laying here now, dead, were talking and making jokes with us.
"We were all present to do a candle ceremony for one of our drivers who passed away last night, and now this has occurred."
"The driver and his girlfriend were retrieved without any injuries," he continued. "The lad claims that the accident happened because the brakes failed, but we know that is not true.
"There is no indication that he was having trouble with the car or that he attempted to apply the brake.
We believe the boy was returning from the club with his girlfriend. Either he was intoxicated or drowsy, or he was talking to the girl and lost control. You are aware of the behavior of all these Yahoo boys.
The police and park owners had to step in to prevent the young motorist and his girlfriend from being lynched, according to a DAILY POST writer who was on the scene of the incident.
The driver was attacked by the deceased's friends, who were upset over the recklessness of the collision. As a result, they were protected and imprisoned in a room until police officers arrived and sneaked them out.
